Warped Finale (or finally), Calgary

Naked Eye blew into Calgary, Aug. 6, 2008; home of the stampede, the space needle and a whole lotta dust. We were deep in the dirt to bring you Scenes from Warped Tour, Calgary.

We spent the majority of the day with our very good friends in Sky Eats Airplane, while taking in the sights and sounds Warped Tour had to offer (a lot of new bands jumped on board…bands like Bring Me the Horizon). Wow is all I can say!  Google BMTH wall of death and you will still have no idea what we got to see 10 feet in front of us. Brutally Awesome!!

Katy Perry also made a very special guest appearance with us. Always one to make sure her fans are satisfied with a signing, Katy was gracious enough to take a few pix with Naked Eye (our latest issue) at our booth.

Hands down this summer’s hit on the music festival circuit… our limited edition Naked Eye T-shirts. We had a crowd of very anxious people eager to get their hands on one.  Didn’t matter if it was Montreal, Toronto or Calgary everyone wanted to Get Naked! …with our T-shirts. Big thanks to all of you who will be rockin’ them!

Btw, sorry Saskatoon for not being present at Warped in your city but we promise to come visit soon.

This Fall is shaping up to be another Out and About tour where we will once again be bringing Naked Eye to you.  Stay tuned for dates and updates.

Peace

Shocking Tales from Wakestock 2008

Boards, bands and bikinis…wait it must be Wakestock on Toronto’s Center Island July 24th – 27th and Naked Eye was there to once again meet all of you face to face.

Thursday was the first day of Wakestock and had thousands of people along the beach, watching wakeboarders of all ages hit the waves to pull everything from big air tricks to sick rail slides. The Naked Eye booth was in the center of merch village, which had everything from energy drinks to a surfers’ paradise of clothing and accessories. One of our booth’s highlights: 2 smokin’ Naked Eye Girls. We definitely had a great presence, with the largest and steadiest line-ups all weekend…

Friday came the bands....and the rain :(

Nonetheless, we had the pleasure of hanging out with our friends of Farewell to Freeway (Victory Records) and Kathleen Turner Overdrive (Underground Operations). Lines were long to see the band play and even longer to have them sign stuff at our booth. Once again, Naked Eye brought you the exclusive on these 2 Canadian bands as they could only be seen signing at our booth over the weekend :)

Saturday started amazing. Hot people, beautiful weather, the best day of music which included the Wu Tang Clan and a Silverstein band signing that ended with a BANG! Around 2pm, while skies were still bright, a huge line formed to see Ontario's own Silverstein, hot off their European tour. The guys were kind enough to sit down with us for a band signing before their set. After about an hour and 700 fans, along came the rain...

Little did we know that this was in fact a SQUALL that was hitting the island that we were on.  As we were down to about the last 10 people, a roar of THUNDER screamed out.  Followed by a LIGHTNING BOLT, which by the way hit the tree connected to our tent!!! One of our boys Ryan, who had been with us since Warped Tour last week, was struck in the arm, resulting in severe electrical burns to his arm and leg and a minor loss of hearing in his right ear. Even sadder was Zoë, the 10 yr old daughter of Chris (our Events Coordinator), who was struck in the foot.  A total of 5 people were hit and all were rushed by police boat off the island to where ambulances waited to take them to nearby hospitals. Thankfully everyone was released shortly from the hospital, with a hell of a story and front page news on the Toronto Star.

Bruised but not beaten, the Naked Eye team came back for the final day of Wakestock to see the damage to our booth, some more great bands and do what we came to do, let everyone know that Naked Eye is in town! Once again our T-shirts were flying off, so much so that the night before security had to stop a few enthusiastic individuals from looting our booth just to cop some, ha-ha. By 4pm, we were out of shirts, down to our last case of magazines and almost stickered out. Having been through extreme heat, rain/ hail storms, struck by lighting and now out of stock we knew it was time to say...when.

Sincere thanks go out to Jason Stevenson, Bill, James and Walter from Wakestock (we had a GREAT time, appreciate all you did for us and look forward to next year)!  Everyone at Underground Operations, with a special thx to Mark, Kate and Trishelle, for lending us KTO on such short notice. And most importantly all of you that came out to hang with us all weekend. Because of you, that weekend was a success for us, which came as no shock…well maybe it, did…LOL.

Next stop…Warped Tour, Calgary!

Naked Gets Dutty! Edmonton

Whats up, Edmonton?!!  We at NakedEye had a crazy time partying with all the gorgeous women and chill guys who came out to the OFFICIAL Sean Paul After-Party.  Jet Nightclub was ablaze when the man himself, the one and only Sean Paul, entered the building.

Attendees were treated to an evening MC'd by Sean's own DJ, Nasty Nas, and local radio personality Kwame.

Ladies danced and screamed for the opportunity to take a photo with the superstar and were granted their wishes (Thanks a million, Sean).

We, also had a chance to get familiar with the new acts coming out of the Dutty Dynasty.  Look out for new rising stars such as: Fahrenheit (Sean's protege) and Coppershot Sound Crew which features Sean's bro Jigzagula.  Other members of the crew include: Coppershaun, Cutty, Small Voice, Marc Chin, Styles, DJ Kenny and DJ Donny.  Stay tuned to our mags and blogs for updates on these very talented artists.

Special shout outs to Grooveland Entertainment, Warner Music and DJ Spincycle (who spun a wicked and ecclectic set).

Don't worry Edmonton, you showed us that we definitely have to check you all out again.  We'll be back...Peace.

Totally Warped!

Hey everyone!  So, we have been on the road since last week slowly making our way across Canada and hitting up every music festival in our path. First stops were Warped Tour 08, in Mississauga, ON at the Arrow Hall Flats on July 19th and Montreal, QC at Parc Jean Drapeau on July 20th. The crazy Canadian weather was no force for Canadians who love to party.  But when you add great music and thousands of people all in one place for a good time, the results can be nothing short of amazing.  And NakedEye was there to make sure we could bring you the entire behind-the-scenes madness!

Over the course of the day, we got to make new friends and hangout with old ones.  Paige Wood, one of our new BFF’s, some might mistake as just another girl on tour, with her 30 min set and then Bye-Bye. WRONGGGG!!!  Not only does Paige and her band give you an energetic set filled with great music and even gymnastics moves but they then return to the bus to give out free skin cancer tests to make sure all the fans are taking the proper precautions while enjoying their day in the sun…our kinda gal. Check out Paige Wood @ the remaining CanadianWarped Tour ’08 dates and her MySpace, www.myspace.com/paigewoodmusic .

\Big shout out to the guys from A Day to Remember.  You guys rock!  5000+ fans can’t be wrong.  Not only was it their first time in our country ever, but NakedEye snagged the boys for both days and were granted exclusive access. They signed 1000's of T-shirts, postcards, posters, and whatever else was thrown in front of them (including our merch table, ha-ha thx Neil) and then gave Canada the performance of a lifetime. It’s no wonder why hundreds of fans lined up in the pouring rain just to catch a glimpse of these guys doing what they do best, being real. Thanks guys and check them out at www.myspace.com/adaytoremember

If you’re in the Toronto area this week, make sure to stop by the NakedEye booth at Wakestock 08. We will be there all 4 days to bring you more band signings and all around good times.

The 2008 ESPYS : Vote for GSP Now!!!

The 2008 ESPYS, to be hosted by Justin Timberlake on Sunday July 20th, will be awarding the most spectacular athletes in the sports industry.

The great news is that our very own GEORGES ST.PIERRE has been nominated in the Best Fighter category, next to boxers Kelly Pavlik, Floyd Mayweather, Joe Calzaghe, and Holly Holm. This makes him the only Mixed Martial Arts athlete in the category.

To show support, we ask that you VOTE for Georges on the ESPYS website. You will need to register to vote, however it is hassle-free promised (we tried it ourselves).

The website is www.espys.tv. Click on VOTE on the top menu bar and register. Once you’re back on the voting page, scroll down your selection to Best Fighter, click on Georges and submit your vote.

Naked Eye thanks you for supporting Canadian athletes!

A New Blog is born!

Hey all, and welcome to our very first blog entry.   Kinda exciting… and we here at Naked Eye Magazine can’t wait to get to know all of you a little bit better.

Our first effort towards achieving that mission was Paparazzi (March 26, 2008),

an exclusive event held during Montreal Fashion Week (March 25 – 28, 2008) @ Club OPERA.  The party was off the chains (just ask anyone who was there)!  Hot crowd (thanks to all of you), photogs, an all access step and repeat wall, photo shoots, body painting and on and on…

Highlights included: Hosting by FeFe Dobson and VJ Iza Desjardins; live performances by Sans Pression and George what-a-cutie Nozuka; and a fashion showcase including the designs of recycled fur guru Harricana by Mariouche and newcomer Pavlina Dadakova.

With all of that going on, it was the perfect chance for us to launch our Spring ’08 issue featuring indie–artist turned superstar, Feist, on the cover.

Check out our Music Issue (with Feist on the cover) now on newsstands, where other interviews include: Bryan Adams, Michael Buble, City and Colour, Esthero, The Kooks, Lenny Kravitz, Robyn and Kinnie Starr!

For all the party pics, see our NakedImages section.

Whew…Laterz…I’m wiped!
